They rescued me....
This summer was probably one of the hardest summers that our family had experienced. There were a lot of changes and some health issues that cropped up that may it difficult for us. We had been talking about adopting a puppy for a long time and on labor day weekend we went to a few local shelters where to our surprise there was one eligible dog for a family who we were told had already been held for another family but we could call back a few days later. On that Wednesday I called the shelter or what I thought was the shelter and was connected to the cat shelter instead. I had done this on speaker phone so my eight year old heard the phone conversation. Please mommy can we please go look at the cats. We already had a 14 year old cat named Emma
We sat there for probably an hour as these two cats just hung out with us and the other cats in the shelter walked around us but these two cats stayed just with us. We finally decided to leave and I said I would speak to my husband and let them know. My daughter was in love and thought we would only get one of them. I spoke to my husband that night and said I think we should get two of them. My wonderful husband said he thought it was a great idea and then the next day I was off to the shelter after I put Gabriella on the bus for her first day of school. I signed the paperwork and gave my references and waited for them to call me back. They called me back the next day and I decided to surprise Gabriella when she got off the bus. I told her we were adopting "Dahlia" and going to pick her up. When we arrived in the parking lot I said we're also getting "Tuffy" She was so happy and screaming with excitement. who we loved dearly but to be honest Emma has never truly bonded to our daughter. We were always hesitant to get another cat for the fact that Emma isn't the friendliest. But it had been a rough summer and it was the day before school started and I said sure we can go look at the cats. In the meantime I found out the dog that I had inquired about had already been adopted. We drove down to the shelter and walked into the kitten room and immediately this little grey and white cat sat on my daughter's lap. The shelter worker said her name was "Dahlia" and she was 12 weeks old. "Dahlia" sat on my daughters lap for at least 30 minutes and we also met "Tuffy" a tiny 2 lb tabby cat who wanted to sit down with us too. "Tuffy" the shelter told me was a boy and had just come into the shelter. It was like the world stopped and everything made sense.
